Ever heard a guy named Thrasymachus? He was an ancient Greek philosopher who basically said that Justice is just a tool the powerful use to keep others down. Sounds harsh, right? Well, that's the firework C.E.M. Joad lights in this tiny, explosive book. Written in the 1920s, it feels like a forward-looking letter sent to our own times, worrying out loud about what happens to rules and morals when everyone suspects the whole system is a scam. Joad doesn't just defend the old guys. He jumps into the mind of Thrasymachus to figure out why that angry view is so tempting. Moving from the old Grecian wars to God coping with going out of fashion, then to psychoanalysis giving all musts a forehead raise, Joad crafts psychological confusion. You know who we present in chapters: a mixed cocktail ranging from desolate defeatism to playful panache. It's a crystal ball approach applied to ethics. And spoilsport alert Joad strongly claims absolute must law as a nonsense. But warning he expects scientists found to work fresh moral standard based off plain mysterious life force however he frames such process as vague sticky disaster. Hella interesting ain't it? As for conflict’s puzzle wonder drives absolutely right desire big challenge!
